Slim Down Sunday Meme - Week 2

I joined this weekly Meme from April @ Heartfelt Homeschooling to 'hang out' with others who want to shed a few pounds. So click on the graphic at the top to link back to the linkup page to see what others are up to.

My goal is to lose 10kg.

Each week we post how it went.

My goals for last week were these:

Exercise 3 times this week (for at least 20min each)
Weigh and measure myself
Drink water instead of coffee / tea
Set up a healthy eating plan
Get more sleep (as I've learned that less sleep slows down your metabolism which makes it harder to lose weight!!)

So how did it go?

I got the flu!! I felt miserable all week and I'm still recovering, so:

I did not exercise last week ('cause I wanted to stay alive) :)
I did not weigh or measure myself (I try to focus on breathing)
I DID drink more water ('cause I felt too sick to drink or eat anything else)
I did not set up an eating plan ('cause I couldn't even think of eating anything) BUT I did not even feel like having chocolate! (A sure sign that something is seriously wrong with me!!)
I DID get PLENTY more sleep ('cause I couldn't stay awake!)

So seeing that I'm still recovering I wont get to exercise (again, because of self preservation), but I will endevour to work out a good eating plan and measure / weigh myself.

For now, off to take some drugs.

New Friend Friday Meme

My last post was about friendship and then today Anna from Molding Minds Homeschool, a fellow TOS Crew member, started hosting this Meme:

New Friend Friday

Here is the blurb about it:

This is just a fun way to meet new bloggers and to get your blog out there a bit more. So if you are a FAMILY FRIENDLY blogger and want to participate here are the directions:

1. Add your blog using the Mr Linky at the bottom of this post. (MoldingMindsLinkup)

2. Post a small blurb linking back to that blog post.

3. Follow at least 3 of the blogs already linked (the first few will have to come back later in the day to get 3).

4. Comment on their blog letting them know that you are following from Follow Me Friday at Molding Minds.

5. Follow anyone that comments on your blog.

The last is very important as that is what makes this work! Any type of blog is welcome to participate as long as it is FAMILY FRIENDLY. Have fun and I look forward to meeting some new friends! Be sure to give the linky a few minutes to refresh before putting your info in a second time. It can take up to 5 minutes sometimes.

Join us :)  you know you want to ;)

"A friend is one who strengthens you with prayers, blesses you with love and encourages you with hope." - unknown

I love that quote.

Today is another day that I see the value of friendship. I am sick. Last week all 3 kids were unwell, now it's my turn. I'm coughing, my body is aching, my head feels full of cotton balls, I'm tired, my nose is blocked.... you get the picture!!

BUT this is not about me, but about MY FRIENDS!!!

So yesterday, we had a friend come over briefly who himself is recovering from some virus, but this morning I get a phone call from him saying that he'll come and pick up my kids and have them over for the morning so I can have a rest!!!!

I LOVE MY FRIENDS!!!! God has blessed me with so many - I am truly rich.

Thank you to all of you who know me well and love me anyway : )

Slim Down Sunday Meme - Week 1

OK, so it's technically Monday morning 00:30am here in NZ and I should be in bed sleeping, however, I want to get this post done. (otherwise I won't)

So last week I confessed to wanting to lose 10kg (22 pounds) because I don't want to die of a heart attack (due to my genetically high cholesterol).

So my goal is to lose 10kg / 22 pounds

Week 1 - how it went:

So I have no idea of how much I weigh right now because I did not weigh myself. Why not? Well, one, because I don't have a working scale in my house, and two, I had no motivation to weigh myself and feel depressed. All 3 kids have been sick and is still recovering, so I thought it wise to stay away from anything else that could be a challenge ;)

HOWEVER, I triumphed here:

I resisted the urge to consume a large slab of chocolate (I had only 4 pieces),
Drank more water,
Did not 'snack' on junky stuff,
Exercised twice (which is twice more than the week before).

My goals for next week:

Exercise 3 times this week (for at least 20min each)
Weigh and measure myself
Drink water instead of coffee / tea
Set up a healthy eating plan
Get more sleep (as I've learned that less sleep slows down your metabolism which makes it harder to lose weight!!)

Now, off to bed with me.

What is involved in Fostering children? Come find out for yourself!

We've been a foster family for over 5 years now, working with an organization called Open Home Foundation (OHF) in Auckland, NZ. Open Home Foundation get referrals from various sources, including CYFS (Child, Youth and Family Services NZ) and need families to open their homes to kids who need a safe, loving home for a period of time. OHF need families to care for a wide range of children including kids under 'care and protection' as well as 'special needs' (either physical or mental disability).  For every 10 'care and protection' referrals they receive, they can only place 3 children and for every 10 'special needs' referrals, they can only place 1. OHF NEEDS more families who are willing to provide care for children who are in need.

If you ...

  • love seeing children thrive,
  • believe that each child should grow up in a loving, safe environment,
  • are appalled by the abuse statistics of New Zealand,
  • wish you could make a difference but are not sure how to ...

then please consider attending an INFORMATION EVENING hosted by Open Home Foundation in Auckland and learn HOW YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

You don't have to commit to anything, just go and listen.

When: THURSDAY EVENING, 21 July, 2011
Time:   7-9pm
Venue:  OHF, Onehunga

For the official invitation and more information, please click HERE or click on the image at the top of this post.

OK, so I'm SUPER Excited!! This is my newest Kitchen accessory!! The kids are almost more excited than I am. hubby brought it home for me yesterday afternoon. We've already used it to make pasta dough and smoothies : )

I am trying to enjoy cooking... watching Master Chef Australia is inspiring!

Hopefully it will translate into some amazing meals.

Here's hoping : )

Homeschooling already :)

OK, so here is my eldest, whom I found in the conservatory / 'resource room' (yah, sounds very organized) teaching the baby her ABC's :) It was just so cute!! - Well, I thought so. She did this after I created a mobile for the baby using black and white pictures. Following on Mummy's footsteps :) Guess it's never too early to start ;)

Every second day is Friday!

... or so it feels. Ok, so it's NOT Friday today but Tuesday, however, it feels at times that I'm on some Enterprise Space Ship going at warp speed. 40 is approaching fast!!
Now don't get me wrong I am super keen on 40, but what I'm not so super keen on is the extra 'chub' that I'm carrying (which I was meant to get rid of a year ago!)

So, now I'm going to join some women in cyber space in a weekly 'check out my achievement / confession time' called "Slim Down Sunday Meme" ... well I think it is pretty self explanatory. I'm going to endeavour to post every Sunday evening what I've achieved (hopefully) or confess to the chocolate that I ate.

If you feel like joining the rest of us visit this site HERE and 'sign up' to slim down. : )

My goal is to lose 10kg! I turn 40 in September and although I know I won't have lost all 10kgs by then, I hope to be well on my way to be a sexy, healthy mama and wife ;)
